How Much i can earn from Solar Power (Feed in Tariff) During Cloudy Day?

How much I can earn money from Solar Power  via Feed In Tariff during cloudy day?

There is significant reduction of solar power generation during cloudy day.
Based on my record ( 30 Jun 2013), 4kwp solar power only produces  13 units (KWh) and it translates to 13x RM1.30=RM 16.90 income for the owner.

From my observation, the hottest day with clear sky capable to produce up to 19 units (29 Jun 2013) and average is approximately 16 units per day.

Has Haze Affecting My Solar Power Income?

clear sky during sunny day (Solar power produces average 16kwh per day)

Today is the worst haze day in Malaysia including Johor hitting up to API (air pollution Index) to 750 point (very dangerous level). Our Kajang located in Selangor also bad affected by haze pollutant from Indonesia illegal forest burning activity and all schools in Selangor Kuala Lumpur will close tomorrow (refer to news The Star Click here.

Do you know how the haze will affecting our solar power  production on our rooftop (feed in tariff)?

This total 4kwp solar panel produces average of  16units (kwh) per day (for a typical sunny day).
Severe Haze has bring down the visibility of the sun light to the rooftop and the solar production had reduced to 14 units (kwh) today. We can see 12.5% income and solar power generation drop!!

Putting Our Faith Into Actions Educates World's Community

For very simple reason Mr. Rashid Khan will soon going home with big heart to his motherland village in Pakistan, because he now knows what is Solar Power is all about.

I donated 40W Solar PV to Mr. Rashid Khan so that he could go home delivering green technology to his community.
Mr. Rashid Khan can now light up his children table lamps with energy saving LED bulbs.

Helping out in world's community with little PV can be a small action that makes a big difference to children.

There are many ways to help the communities but these are just some of my favorites.

That was a good initiative for a start. Hope this deed will has a domino or ripple effect for others to follow.

Keep it up and god bless you.

Homeowners can apply for solar rooftop from Sept 24

PETALING JAYA: Owners of landed homes can start applying for the 2000 Solar Home Rooftop Programme by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) from Sept 24.
Seda chairman Tan Sri Dr Fong Chan Onn said the authority would allocate 2,000kW of solar photovoltaic (PV) for the fourth quarter of 2012 and 6,000kW for 2013 to home owners interested in generating electricity from their rooftops.
“A directory of the solar PV service providers will be available at Seda from Sept 18 to assist home owners,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Dr Fong said the programme was open to only individual residents and each application must comply with the Renewable Energy (Feed-in Approval and Feed-in Tariff Rate) Rules 2011 and Administrative Guidelines under the Renewable Energy Act.
An applicant can only submit one application per day through the e-FiT Online System at efit.seda.gov.my.
Seda chief executive officer Badriyah Abdul Malek, however, said the e-FiT Online System was not available for public access until Sept 18 as it was undergoing enhancements.
Badriyah also said applications for feed-in approval that were sent earlier have been flushed out due to the system upgrade. She also encouraged interested applicants and prospective and renewable energy developers to attend Seda's roadshows which will be held soon to learn more about the programme.
Houseowners could expect to get their investment returns after six years which could earn them an average of RM500 per month for 21 years.

Time frame set for renewable energy to impact electricity supply

PUTRAJAYA: A three-year time frame is being set for renewable energy (RE) activities to kick off with expected higher funding and quotas.

“We are now at the stage of looking at this preliminary period in the implementation process,” Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin told StarBiz.

“We would like to see a higher level of RE being generated in the future. But it is better to be more cautious and look at what this preliminary process is like in our implementation and the administration process by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (SEDA Malaysia). We have to learn from this preliminary phase before we proceed in a more aggressive manner.

We are looking at about three years to see how this RE is performing especially with solar energy. — Datuk Seri Peter Chin

“We are looking at about three years to see how this RE is performing especially with solar energy for which the cost of solar production is getting lower and lower.”

On the progress of the RE sector, Chin said: “We are restricted by the amount in the kitty called the RE Fund for which we can only collect 1% from each account holder of Tenaga Nasional Bhd. Therefore, the quota that is being created to implement this feed-in tariff has to be rather small.

“Because of that, it will take time for RE to really take effect in terms of the impact that it can create on the total electricity supply.

“If the fund is higher, the quota can be increased and more RE can be generated. That will be good for the country in terms of emission of carbon and the fact that RE is considered a cleaner source of energy.”

Currently, 398 applicants have received the feed-in approvals. Out of these, 71 have signed the standardised renewable energy power purchase agreements (REPPAs).

FIT payments can only be made to those developers who have signed the REPPAs and implemented their projects successfully.

Industry players suggest there should be a liability imposed on those who have not implemented their projects as money is a scarce resource.

“In fact, they should be relieved of their allocation so that others can take their place. Deadlines should be set for implementation; under the REPPAs, there may be deadlines stipulated but who is actually monitoring all this?” asked an industry player.

SEDA Malaysia acts as a one-stop centre to facilitate interested parties in all matters related to RE; it is also working with relevant training institutes to set up a centre of excellence for each RE source.

In terms of research and development, SEDA Malaysia is working on an R&D roadmap for RE.

It has also been tasked to raise awareness on RE; one main awareness programme that has been planned is a sustainable energy conference.

Solar-powered hypermart

THE RM70 mil new Tesco hypermarket in Kulim, Kedah, features a solar power system capable of reducing carbon emissions of more than three tonnes per year to the environment.Tesco Stores Malaysia chief operating officer Tim Golding said in a press release that the grid connected  solar photovoltaic system generated some 45,600kW of electricity per year.

“This is our first solar-powered hypermarket, which is also the 39th Tesco store in Malaysia. The system cost about RM400,000 to install and can support the power needs of six medium-sized households for an entire year.
“The generation of 45,600kW of electricity translates into a reduction of more than three tonnes of carbon emissions per year,” he said.

Golding said the installation of the solar system in Tesco Kulim was the result of Tesco’s participation in the Suria 1000 Programme, a scheme under the Federal Government’s Malaysia Building Integrated Photovoltaic (MBIPV) project to encourage and support building owners in the generating of their own electricity from solar energy.

“Tesco will continue to up the ante in building environmentally-friendly stores. The energy-saving innovation is focused on lighting, water consumption, air-conditioning, refrigeration and architecture design,” he said.

“It is a natural evolution for us to adopt solar energy in our stores and we are pleased that our brand-new Tesco Kulim will be an important model for our stores in Malaysia. “We have been steadfast in our aim to mobilise the collective strength of our customers, suppliers and stakeholders to help protect the environment and combat climate change, but we believe that the best way to achieve this is to lead by example.”

On the company’s expansion in Kedah, Golding said Tesco was happy to be in Kulim. “As a result of the overall national growth and prosperity, the state, including this town, holds much potential for retailers like Tesco. “The opening of our hypermarket in Kulim has created over 400 job opportunities for the local Community,” he added.

Tesco Kulim is built at a cost of close to RM70 million and has a sales floor area of 6,200sq m and a mall area of about 8,500sq m.

“The hypermarket also has more than 800 parking bays for the convenience of its shoppers,”Golding said.
As part of its commitment to the environment, Tesco Malaysia has earlier introduced a range of alternative carrier bags for customers.

“Customers are also rewarded with Tesco Green Clubcard points each time they use their own bags or the Tesco reusable bags available at all Tesco stores.“Our first recycling centre at Tesco Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, was launched in May 2008. Tesco Malaysia today has recycling centres at 12 of its stores,” added Golding.

Malaysian-funded solar water for children in Ladakh

LEH: A group of Malaysians has proven that charity is borderless and colour blind.

For almost a decade, Buddhist Gem Fellowship (BGF) members have been rendering humanitarian services to underprivileged children in remote Ladakh, a parched Himalayan mountainous region in Jammu and Kashmir, in northern India.

Using funds, largely donated by a low-profile Malaysian woman philanthropist, they cheer up nearly 500 mountainous children at monasteries and schools in the Leh Valley in Ladakh.

The philanthropist-funded solar water system provides hot water, underground water supply and irrigation system to water vegetables and fruit trees in the arid land of the monasteries.

"Now, there is a 24-hour hot water supply at eight buildings, even in winter," BGF member Charlie Chia Lui Meng, who had been spearheading these projects, told Bernama.

In the sprawling Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre in Leh, a sizeable Malaysian charity helps local children go to school and provide basic needs to many, aged between five and 15.

"Children from 65 villages from the high mountains live here (monastery and boarding schools) and our focus is on helping poor and backward families.

"Malaysian-sponsored projects, big or small, are a big help for us and they have been our big supporters," said Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, founder and chief monk of Mahabodhi.

In 1986, the former soldier-turned-monk started the centre to help spread spiritual teachings and offer social services for people in the remote Ladakh.

Today, as the harsh Himalayan winter approaches, the centre provides shelter to the aged, those with impaired vision, boarding school students and little monks and nuns living at an altitude of 3,500m. - Bernama

Cypark, LG in solar farm deal

SEREMBAN: Cypark Resources Bhd, the country's largest publicly traded renewable energy company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea's LG Electronics to help develop a solar farm in Pajam, Negri Sembilan.

Under the deal, the South Korean company will become Cypark's technology partner and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor for the RM94 million solar project.

Cypark had on Thursday, after the market close, sought a one-day trading suspension, presumably to announce the deal.

Yesterday, the company signed a financing agreement with HSBC Amanah Malaysia to finance the Pajam plant.

It also announced that the company had received a letter from the state government, granting rights for a 21-year lease of the land.

Chief executive officer Daud Ahmad explained that the bulk of the capital expenditure for the project is via debt.

Cypark has secured RM75 million financing loan from HSBC Amanah for the project, while the balance RM19 million will come from internally generated funds.

The solar park will be developed in three stages on a 12.15ha land and will consist of two plants, which will eventually be connected to the power grid.

The first phase, a 160 kilowatt solar project, was launched in March by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak

The second phase, an eight megawatt (MW) solar energy plant, will start operating in December, while the third phase for a 2MW biogas energy will be operational by March 2012.

"Currently, we are connecting in progress ... It is very important that we do the first phase because the first phase will set whether the remaining of the other phases is viable," Daud said.

He also said renewable energy will become a major contributor to Cypark's revenue.

He expects the energy business to generate some RM20 million a year for the company.

"Our main focus will be on the landfills in Negri Sembilan before moving into land in states such as Perlis and Terengganu," he said

California schools saving with Solar Power

Courtesy: CNN
(CNN) -- California schools are hurting. Budget cuts in the millions are causing school districts to find ways to save cash.

Some schools have laid off staff. Others have increased class sizes. And some have spent millions on solar panels to trim their electricity bills.

With the help of low-interest loans from the federal government, the San Ramon Valley Unified School
District installed 10,000 photovoltaic panels at five schools.

It was one of 90 systems in California, including some colleges, to do so.

Those panels should create enough electricity to offset  67% to 75% of each school's electrical use, a San Ramon Valley official said. The savings initially will be used to pay back the loans, which came from federal stimulus funds, officials said.

My favourite comment: " Until the Chinese got involved big-time, the price of photovoltaics dropped about 10 percent over a twenty-five year period, In the last two years, they have dropped 70 percent. Good for the Chinese."

Some people claim this is a bad business move, let's see what they say in 6 years time when the solar installation has been paid off! I personally think this is a great move for the long term.

Sun rises on solar technology in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia, which has become an investment magnet for global solar panel manufacturers, is expected to see its latest addition tomorrow.

A US-based company, which will ink a deal with Senai High-Tech Park Sdn Bhd, is expanding its operations in this part of the world, and Malaysia serves as an ideal location.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the new investor and Senai High-Tech Park, the developer of the high technology park located within Iskandar Malaysia.

The park management, however, has declined to disclose details of this latest investment.

First Solar and SunPower of the US and Q-Cells of Germany are among the significant investors in the solar technology industry.

Solar technology is a major growth opportunity for Malaysia, with the energy technology industry enjoying a 20 per cent annual growth rate.

With its aim to become the world's third-largest solar photovoltaic cell producer, Malaysia's investment package has also attracted Tokuyama, Osram, Fuji, Rohm-Wako and Nichia over the past three years.

Senai Hi Tech Park, which is the second high technology industrial park after the successful Kulim park, has already attracted large foreign firms that have been aggressively pursuing technology-related businesses. It is located near the Senai airport.

So far, the park has attracted investments in semiconductor, solar, advanced material industries and nanotechnology to the tune of RM3 billion.

Senai High-Tech Park Sdn Bhd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd, under the MMC Group of Companies.

Green Loan

Kuala Lumpur:Commercial banks, which are currently shying away from lending to green companies, may have to set aside an allocation to finance green technology projects.

Malaysian Green Technology Corp (MGTC) chief executive officer Dr Nazily Mohd Noor said this was one of the suggestions made during a discussion at the Green Technology and Climate Change Council, chaired by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, two weeks ago.

"We voiced out this to the Prime Minister about the difficulties companies are facing to obtain loans pertaining to green projects and he (Prime Minister) immediately instructed the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to speak to Bank Negara to look into the matter and to also provide quotas for banks to adhere to when giving out green loans.

"Green technology is a government agenda," he told Business Times in an interview recently.
So far, only RM330 million loans have been extended to green technology companies, a far cry from the targeted RM1.5 billion in loans to be disbursed to the green technology sector by next year.

Nazily said the financing quota is a must because at present, banks are just refusing to approve any loans related to green technology for reasons unknown.

"The worst part is when they reject these loans, they never give any reason ... so, we don't know why the loans were rejected in the first place. Hence, we don't know which areas to improve on," he added.

Nazily said the MGTC is also willing to partner with green companies when securing loans in the future, if it would make a difference in the approval of such loans.

He said so far, banks have disbursed a total of RM330 million loans to 21 companies, including 13 companies they had approved last year.

The idea is to give out close to RM1.5 billion in loans by next year to green technology projects, a figure which even the MGTC is skeptical about.

Nazily said the MGTC is now considering setting aside RM500 million mainly for biomass projects due to the feed-in tariff, which is expected to kick-start by next month.

"This year, they only gave loans to eight companies but my KPI is 20 companies and I am not sure if I can meet that because the risk appetite for green loans is very low among commercial banks," he said.

Nazily also suggested that the government set aside some seed funding for green technology projects, just like what it has done with the biotechnology and information technology industry.

"This way, instead of going to the banks, we can provide some seed funding to these companies directly," he added.

Bosch plans RM2.2b photovoltaics plant

The Bosch Group plans to set-up a RM2.2 billion photovoltaics manufacturing plant in the Batu Kawan, Penang, to mainly serve Asia's growing solar energy market.

Robert Bosch Sdn Bhd Managing Director Martin Hayes said: "The Asian market is set to see an average annual growth of 30 per cent in the coming years.

"Components for manufacturing sites in other countries will also be produced at the new Malaysian site".

Hayes also said Bosch had chosen Malaysia as the country offered qualified workforce in the fields of electronics and semiconductors as well as good local infrastructure.

"We have good experience in Malaysia since 1923. We are quite familiar with the favourable conditions offered in Penang," Hayes told reporters after a media briefing on Bosch's financial performance for 2010 today.

Chairman of the Bosch Solar Energy AG Holger Von Hebel said construction of the new site was set to begin before the end of this year and the total plant would be fully completed by 2014.

The first production is expected to start by end 2013.

"The planned facility will cover the entire value-added chain, from silicon crystals known as ingots and solar cells to the modules which can be installed on roofs or in solar power plants," said Von Hebel.

He said by then, some 2,000 associates would be working at the new site in Penang, producing solar power plants with a total peak output of 640 megawatts each year.

The module production lines will reach an annual peak capacity of 150 megawatts.

He added that the solar energy business contributed about 900 million Euros to the group's total sales of 47 billion Euros in 2010.

In 2011, the business aims to generate one billion Euros in sales for the first time. -- Bernama
