TENAGA NASIONAL BHD [] (TNB) Terengganu general manager Md Yuslan Md Yusof said preliminary works at the site began early last year.
"So far, the second hydroelectric dam building project in Terengganu runs smoothly with cooperation from the state government. It's being undertaken in two phases and expected to be fully completed according to schedule in 2015.
"Once ready, it can generate 250MW of power," he told Bernama on Tuesday, March 1.
He said TNB would bear the whole cost of the project amounting to RM1 billion. He said power from the second hydroelectric dam would supply to the national grid.
Terengganu's existing Kenyir Hydroelectric Dam or the Sultan Mahmud Power Station in Hulu Terengganu has a generating capacity of 400MW.
